February 2, 2018 - Eglo Records
Londoner K15 has been making his positivity-oriented way in DJing and production for the last decade. Most recently the artist has released his new EP Sunbeams on Eglo Records, Alexander Nut’s label. Leave it to electronic funk lounge to reference outer space. This guy loves chirping synths. And he's kind of winning me over. What starts out as a concern that I'm going to sit through several minutes of staccato-ass syncopation is quickly ameliorated. Smooth beeps and tasteful Louisianan piano sands down, or rather billows the tracks into a dreamy soundscape with considerable danceability.
Vaguely sexy from start to finish and explicitly sexy at certain points, K15's Sunbeams is a slow build and then another, but never without groove. Childlike excitement and awe come to mind on the second or fourth listen, though on the first, yapping dogs came to mind. The opening song of Sunbeams which is ‘Sunbeams’ embodies a barrage of excitement a general overwhelming of the sense, but for his listeners, K15 has distilled the experience to chipper horns and lightly reverbed choruses and some angelic pad play. I hope these details are doing it for you. These are cherry picked adjectives. ‘Sunbeams’ is the emotional timbre of leaving orbit.
‘Starburst 3’ is the sexy part of your space adventure. You've acclimated; you have an own-the-place sort of swagger. You're on deck. You're a Great Captain, or a sexy up-and-comer, a Sergeant maybe. I don't care how you identify, and I mean that lovingly. A similar heart-imitative synth chirp carries you toward romance, nothing too serious, there is a whole galaxy before you after all.
Gentle piano chord progressions insinuate you could be in for more than a one-nighter. This could be an emotional rollercoaster. Midway through, the accompanying rising and falling synths confirm, it's the space love bug. We'll just have to see where this goes.
The first fade-in opening in the final track ‘Esencia’ confirms, this song is as sensuous as its title. Looks like you're in for the long haul. I'm getting morning after vibes from this one. Love has been made, and there are some loving glances being thrown around, maybe—oh wait the song is over. It's a pleasant outro, more open ended than anything. Maintaining the playful samba or as K15's Bandcamp describes it "Swinging Latin House Grooves.” Who knows, you're poolside now and looking for your next lusty adventure. ⛰️
