Peruvian-born Berlin-based Sofia Kourtesis has arrived with the follow-up to her self-titled debut on Studio Barnhus, bringing the same infectious dance atmosphere, awareness, and hope. Four tracks of sample driven constellations are intertwined with sassy basslines, sharp percussion grooves dance around chopped soul-vocals, driving hi-hats are sprinkled on top of soft piano melodies, and gentle spirit-filled arpeggios float around a darker backdrop of reality. Sarita Colonia is named after Peru’s infamous non-canonized Saint of the People, patron of the underprivileged, of the ignored, of the misrepresented; there is a lot to unpack with the connection, but it’s a mystery that fits. 🍍
