March 11, 2020 - Future Classic
It was early March when the union of Flume and Toro y Moi bore fruit, which was a single they named, ‘The Difference,’ in an effort to vaguely espouse the idea of trying even though everyone is bound to die and die whenever. Lyrically, the track is pursuant of Toro y Moi’s last efforts to talk about being a freelancer through electronic music overlaid with existential pangs about going through routines which become the slipstream of your aging body, which is a topic of nearly-endless depth. Yet Toro Y Moi prefers to linger on catch-phrases, which works sonically, especially in tandem with Flume’s bright and catchy production flourishes, rendering the song a somewhat nonsensical anthem which nonetheless brightens one’s day. ⛰️
