Tristan Hallis, the very real name of DJ BORING, is here with a remix of former pizza delivery driver Chrisophe Dubé, the very real name of CRi, who has left the world of delivering hot pies to deliver hot beats. Hallis has found inspiration in CRi, the latest addition to Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep imprint, converting his track ‘Stranger’ into a high-spirited techno clubber, a testament to the newcomer’s ear-catching production.

This re-envisioning upholds the emotion behind the original cut with a heightened dance incentive. Hallis clips the atmospheric quality which imbued the original with an out-of-body romanticism, building a track with a grounded, more physical logic. Though longer than Dubé’s original, the higher BPM and chirping percussion of the remix drive the energy levels to make the track feel more concise. What is at first identifiably a light-stepping techno soon takes on some of Hallis’s existentialism, with a twisting middle bridge of amorphic chords and wisps of nostalgic emotives.

Both ‘Stranger’ and its remix bear a distinctly humanistic core––a relational quality observing happiness as a factor of complex and contradictory forces.
