Grabek, the non-mysterious moniker of violinist and composer Wojtec Grabek, can’t leave well enough alone in his audience’s emotional world. Tiny Melodies stirs up what we’ve all gone through painstaking effort to bury under unnatural silences, non-sequiturs, and other distractions. Despite its modest 37-minute runtime, Tiny Melodies has the power to take you through every meaningful moment in your life and to embellish the less than rich ones.
Restraint and expression meet in a treatise of cinematic power through Grabek’s direction. “Where does the classical end and the modern electronica begin?” you may ask yourself. Or you may be better at knowing than me, and you just know. You are impressed. It is impressive. Even to you who knows. Perhaps more so, for all your wisdom and glory, seeing clearly the line which Grabek traverses quietly, without apology.
It is my guess that Tiny Melodies will either drive you to invent new words for the emotions loosed from your feelings-crypt or will guide you to such self-acceptance you find no need for language. No need to distill the richness of experience into a fraction—a word—prone to corruption on its journey from you to a listener, perhaps your therapist. ⛰️
