It was exactly 12:12am on June 5th in a sweaty club in New York City. I was standing in the Golden Triangle of Sound, that perfect little space in the center of the dancefloor where all the speakers align. Kornel Kovacs and Axel Boman were DJing loosely back-to-back. Positive moods and optimistic outlooks were free on draft. A track bubbled up in the mix, shifting the energy of the room ever so slightly towards unbridled giggly joy. I Shazamed the track a few times (hott dance tracks sitting on the bleeding edge of newness are notoriously hard to pinpoint) and found this gem, ‘Elk’ by Dublin’s Pusher aka Alan Keane. I’ve been listening to it around the house and in the park and on the train ever since.
The B side ‘Paradise’ is also a straight summer heater. Synths sparkle on the water of a beachside pool alongside a tight percussive loop. Like the A side, ‘Paradise’ orbits around a simple but solid melodic idea, creating moments ripe for sunset dancefloor mixing. We’ll be keeping an eye on Pusher and his Indicate imprint; for now ‘Elk’ is locked into the summer rotation. 🍍
