October 6, 2022 - Dream Dancing
Dream Dancing is a record label I’ve had my ear on for over a year now. The Northampton-based outfit has trickled out 003 small releases brimming with big music since 2021, all physical-only editions clad in the innocent dancing-person-with-stars logo. This latest project marks the first in what is hopefully a bunch more digital releases.
DDDSVO kicks off with a sassy bass-fueled heater in ‘Limitless Height’ from WHYT. Floaty synths expand and contract around a confident bassline, drawing the gaze upwards into the clouds. An undercurrent of tonal texture keeps the piece grounded, flowing directly into Acanalar’s ‘P0121.’ The clouds part to reveal the vast voluminous void of space, complete with Y2K futurism-inspired space stations and ships. The illusion of a future deserved. Joe Moan sends the party further afield with ‘Sweet Sun,’ a slow, drippy dance between the saturation knob and the reverb pedal. The sounds ebb and flow, up and down like the breath of a distant giant. The mood shifts solidly into the solemn with Wally The Polymath’s ‘Pondering Dub.’ The energy of the first three tracks splits across the event horizon, pouring itself in earnest into the singularity. Particles of cymbal crashes and wailing drones jet out into the emptiness. There is no escape, only dance.🍍
