I. Jordan is back on the solo train with a trio of double singles for the year. The artist and DJ has been hitting the road hard for the past several months with shows all around the world, including an incredible performance in mine own backyard at Elsewhere in Brooklyn earlier this year. Jordan has been the central point of a fresh look at the faster side of things, with tracks that feel at the same time like lightning in a bottle and introspective emotional soundscapes.
The middle duo of the trio, Hey Baby, is no different, featuring a title track that has been a standout in the artist’s sets at every port and call. ‘Hey Baby’ whips itself into a frenzy, spinning percussion around at breakneck speeds while an incredibly weighty bassline struggles to keep up, being stretched and pulled around the centrifugal force like taffy. It’s a smart and straight-to-the-point track, as effortless to listen to as it is to lose oneself and dance to.
The second track ‘I Had the Best of Times’ starts off as a moodier, more chilled out counterpoint to ‘Hey Baby.’ But after a drawn-out intro, the urgency rises right back up with a beat that again threatens to leave everyone and everything behind. It’s this urgency and sincerity that have become hallmarks of Jordan’s productions. It (everything) needs to be there (everywhere) at that time (always). No other way.🍍
