2019 is coming to a close (praise be) and we here at We Hate Music would like to highlight some of the records that slipped through the cracks. Happy Holidays and hope you enjoy.
Paul Woolford’s 2019 was a busy and fruitful one, releasing four projects under the Special Request moniker, holding down a spot on the BBC Radio 1 Residency since March, and playing out at countless clubs and venues around the world. June’s Bedroom Tapes provides unique insight into Woolford’s progression and growth as an artist. The project contains eight tracks pulled from a number of thought-to-be lost cassette tapes, like an ice core sample freshly extracted from the glacial plains of Woolford’s mind. Layers of snow and ice going back through time weave a tight constellation of connections between past and present audio interests and sonic tendencies. Analyzing such a core sample adds depth to Woolford’s oeuvre, qualifying his current work in a new way and strengthening the connection felt with him as an artist and taste-maker.🍍
