The worst season (summer sucks) is upon us and the blessings of the Blessed EP are beginning to fade into wistful nostalgia (summer sucks), but here arrives a moment of rest, a moment of oasis, a moment of respite. Minimal techno master Ricardo Villalobos massages our tired feet, gently lowering our toasty trotters into a tepid epsom salt bath of contemplative minimalism. His take on ‘Cleopatra’ soothes our swollen yams; bits of the original vocals and ambiance float lazily among the calm beat. Villalobos hands us an Aperol Spritz he was making while taking a break from rubbing our feet and we are grateful. We sip on the spritz and let the music continue. Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White and Louis Vuitton’s artistic director, glides into the room. He gives a curt nod to Villalobos and starts in on our tense back and shoulders. His dew-drop agave-nectar jazz-infused thoughts on ‘Blessed’ flow in from the spritz we are sipping on and begin to work their magic. The bouncy bass releases the tension in our muscles and we are drawn into an even deeper sense of renewal as Tiga’s voice cuts through the air; “it’s not me, it’s you” indeed. Halfway through the track we are at peak rejuvenation. We close our eyes as Abloh throws us onto a dance floor full of the best people and the best feelings. But we haven’t moved, we are still in our oasis, still sipping our spritz. We needed this. You needed this. They needed this. Everything is going to work out. 🍍
