Listening to Brent Faiyaz’s much-anticipated new album Fuck The World is like taking a nighttime stroll through a densly-populated city and peering into the lit windows as you pass by the residential buildings—a series of small low-key vignettes or an anthology of flash fictions, each sharing different stories and a different moods, each as unique as the characters that occupy it. The syntax of the tracks is so loose they are always on the verge of falling apart, held together by a few soft structural threads and Faiyaz’s beautiful singing voice, in a youthful, playful approach to musical composition. This album is an honest, eclectic, organic outfit that’s easy to slip on and engage with and relax in, and it’s just as easy to take off when you are ready to move on. ☔
