One of Three at Studio Barnhus Axel Bowman has ventured inward to bring something outward, releasing Eyes Of My Mind alongside a visual collaboration with fellow Stockholm painter Malin Gabriella Nordin. The two part EP plays out in two parts bent just enough to connect their ends to their beginnings; a strange loop, a Möbius Strip, an endless knot.
‘Eyes Of My Mind’ is the stable, the static. Ethereal pad notes are tied down with a muted but through beat. A bassline provides ground. Slightly warped vocals carved from the cowboy/bluegrass song ‘20/20 Vision (and Walking Around Blind)’ chime in of their own accord, slightly off in some ways, perfectly matched in others. The effect is palpable. This track is for sunrises and sunsets, nostalgia and regret, getting ready to go out and getting ready for bed.
‘Echoes Of My Mind’ floats onward, free of the ties of percussion, bassline, and most vocal elements. It is the afterglow, the traces of a feeling left on the walls and floor and ceiling of the party, the sweet smell of night sweat mixing with the sweet smell of morning dew, the buzz of the sound system being powered down in preparation for their next use. Ghostly voices bring back the thought of structure, heralding the trip back to the beginning of the Next Time.
Malin Gabriella Nordin interpreted these sentiments through 455 paintings full of color, love, flowers, and bodies. They flow in and of each other much like the tonal drones of the music, creating multiple start and stop points, looping, endless.🍍
